James (Jim) Stone Cook, 95, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida. Born in Syracuse, New York on September 24, 1930, Jim was raised by his loving grandparents, Fred and Annie Stone, who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance.

Education and Career

Jim graduated from Camillus High School, SUNY Canton, and Syracuse University, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Cum Laude. He dedicated 32 years to General Electric in Liverpool, NY, serving as a department head in cutting-edge technology and developing multiple patents that advanced the field.

Family and Community

Jim and his first wife, Edie Cook, raised their family in the suburbs of Syracuse before moving to Tully, NY in 1968. He was active in the Tully United Community Church, where he built lasting friendships and contributed to the community.

He shared 34 years of marriage with his wife, Terry Cook, and is survived by his sister Marilyn Moore of Syracuse, NY; his daughters Christine (Paul) McDonald, April Cook, and Patrice (Brad Hupy) Cook; and his grandsons Paul, James, and John McDonald. He is also remembered by five nephews, six nieces, and their children. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brother, David Cook.

Passions and Legacy

Beyond his professional achievements, Jim loved sports and recreation. He enjoyed bowling, softball, skiing, golf, and racquetball, which he played until the age of 83. In the mid-1960s, his passion for friendship and fun inspired a weekly volleyball group that grew into decades of shared memories—picnics, parties, ice skating, tobogganing, and sleigh rides.

Jim will be remembered for his strength, intellect, and devotion to family and community. His legacy lives on through the innovations he contributed to engineering, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he shared with his family.
